THE PURSUIT OF PEACE 

“Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” 

Hebrews 12:14  

“When will there be Peace on Earth?” asked the bewildered child, as the family gathered around the living-room television. A hard question to answer, as the images of missiles and bombs streaking across the skies lit up the screen. Bombed-out buildings. Dismembered bodies, fleeing refugees and lost loved-ones are only a few of the horrors of the conflicts enveloping the world. 

 From a SPIRITUAL perspective, It is important to understand that conflicts are the result of demonic activity influencing human behavior. “Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1Peter 5:8. Whether the conflict be among nations, in the political arena or the sanctity of the home, recognize the hand of the evil one. Those emotions and attitudes, such as anger, hatred, greed, envy and irrationality, which result in conflict, can only be rooted out by the Love and Power of God! It must happen on a PERSONAL level. 

“Pursue Peace”, the Scripture commands us. It means we should closely and diligently follow a path where agreement can be achieved. To do so, we must begin by assuring ourselves that WE have the Peace of God that passeth all understanding.” (Philippians 4:5-7). This will allow us to be calm, humble and open minded as we seek to find common ground. 

When will there be Peace on Earth? For wars and conflicts to cease, all people must be moved by the Spirit of God and accept His sovereign will. Hearts must be transformed, souls must be saved!  That’s why we pray, ”Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”  May we soon see the dawning of that day!
